the answer is 5 7/8
b/c 2 1/2 = 2 4/8
so then convert 8 3/8 as an improper fraction which is 67/8
and do the same w/ 2 4/8 which is 20/8
the do: 67/8 - 20/8 = 47/8
simplify 47/8 = 5 7/8.
Your answer is 5 7/8 inches of ribbon left.
