I always set these up as follows:

12.95 over x equals 30 over 100.

[tex]12.95 \div x = 30 \div 100[/tex]
cross multiply 8 to the right and 100 to the left
12.95 x 100 = 30x
1295=30x
1295/30=x
43.166 or 43.7=x
